About Lori Stebbins:

Who am I and what do I do? Well, I’m glad you asked! I’m currently an Illustration major at the Maine College of Art—I graduate in 2011. When creating work, I try to think ‘outside’ the box. In my sketchbook, I’m constantly drawing, brainstorming, and problem solving. I draw something every day, even if it is just a funny scribble in my sketchbook. Drawing is a very important skill to maintain, and it requires constant practice.

My goal is to create illustrations that come to life when the viewer gazes upon them. I want people to be able to feel the emotions of my characters and fantasize about what it would be like to be a part of the story. My color palette is bright and playful, and my characters have a wide variety of expressions-from happy to sad, to grumpy or cheery, excitable or energetic . My work is light-hearted and sweet. I draw many characters with smiling faces and gleeful expressions. I love to include some kind of narrative in my work. Just that little extra ‘something’ that gives the character a unique personality. Whether it’s an expression, animal companion, or an interaction between characters—each one is bound to leave you with a smile!
